MMOW, aka Music Makers of the World was a graphic novel project I had conceived between 2009 and 2011. MMOW was supposed to take place between fact and fiction and be a mix of interviews and real-life stories, embedded in a fictional narrative frame. Unfortunately the project never came into existence, but I did make a few interviews and draw some preliminary short stories, which were published on magazines.
I really like how some of the stories turned out, so I’m now giving them a second life by re-publishing them here.
This one is based on an interview I had made in 2011 with Patrick McCarthy from Roth Mobot, a band that plays only with self-made circuit-bent instruments. This was originally published on the small-run, local magazine Pills. Here’s the comic, re-layouted for the occasion, to be more readable on smaller screens (I hope it’s ok if you are reading this on a smartphone, you can click/tap on the images for a bigger version).

I don’t know if Roth Mobot are active anymore, their website went silent a couple of years ago. But of course, you can still find them on other platforms. I can totally recommend this album of theirs on Bandcamp:
And there’s a some videos of their live performances on Youtube, here’s a random one:
